About us

From grass roots, SWH grew from managing the highways contract in Devon, into a multi-million-pound civil engineering and construction business. For over 20 years, SWH has established key relationships across the South West of England to deliver projects for the public, commercial, education and health sectors. We have built our trusted reputation on having an open and honest approach, being a local employer and delivering high quality services. Our company may be large, but we successfully maintain the friendly feel of a local business and invest in our people to grow personally and professionally.

SWH Civils

Reinstating historic bridges, creating cycle and pedestrian paths, building coastal defences and even the construction of a helipad. Our civils division have the skills and expertise to take on mammoth civils projects that make a huge contribution to residents, businesses and the tourists who flock to our beautiful part of the world. The team don't just work with steel and concrete however, we've even created a reedbed system – a biological wetland treatment system designed to treat waste water from gullies and site run off. As an engineer you could take your career in many directions, but at SWH, satisfying your desire for variety is almost guaranteed.

SWH Building

SWH Building can handle sensitive restorative projects to shiny new builds; from schools to factories. Launched in 2004, we directly employ many trades who have undertaken large scale projects on behalf of county councils and commercial clients. The quality and pride in their workmanship and drive to do a great job, has meant that we've had some very happy customers. For example, extending factories to increase production lines, to refurbishing hospitals whilst remaining fully operational for patients.

We don't just build buildings; we help to build successful industries, flourishing schools and communities and rewarding, long term careers.

Highways was where it all began for SWH; for over 20 years we looked after the local highway network for Devon County Council. And still today, since 1996 as part of a joint venture with another contractor, we undertake maintenance of highways and associated works for the A30 and A35 Trunk Road from Exeter to Poole as well as resurfacing 400,000m2 of the trunk road. Over 25,000 road users per day rely on these routes. It's a very important network to ensure it enables these journeys to run smoothly.

A more recent contract we're proud to deliver is for Plymouth Highways. We provide routine and reactive maintenance as well as improvement schemes. A close working relationship with our client and having a reliable, skilled and dedicated workforce ensures we can provide a network fit for the residents and businesses of the local community.
